A small dog named Wonder is taken from his home and goes on a journey to find his way back.
STORY STRUCTURE
ACT 1
Setting of Film: Backyard of house (set in the late 70s, early 80s) Southern California, near the border of Mexico (in a town called Calexico)
Film begins: Boy lets Wonder out to pee.
Inciting Incident: Wonder gets kidnapped (bagnapped!), transaction to Wonder in the back of a truck.
Plot Point 1: Wonder gets out of the bag (using his intelligence; may use a beer can or something to rip the bag in the truck) and jumps out of the truck, injuring himself in some way (probably hurts his shoulder). He gets up and starts walking in the opposite direction of the truck; pan up (clouds in sky) and title screen
ACT 2
Setbacks/How does the protagonist deal with them?
Different time (after leaves truck, night time. Now it's day) Wonder in Mexicali. Can smell the food; flea market. Wonder looks for scraps.
Child (around parents) sees and baits dog (shows scraps of food)
Wonder grabs the treat and starts eating it when- WHOOSH
The child tries to wrap the blanket around Wonder! Wonder is freaking out, squirms around and the child loses grip on the blanket.
Wonder, still with the blanket around him (stuck on his collar) then goes through this market place; possibly about to be trampled, blanket gets caught on items, rushes around. CHASE SCENE. Looks like the kid is about to get him and barely misses.
Second plot point that jumps to Act 3: Wonder makes it passed the flea market, now at the border. He manages to get the blanket off of him. He is now at the border. It starts to rain lightly. He looks through the small opening of the wooden fence and he sees the silhouette of home.
ACT 3
Climax: It begins to pour! Wonder hits against the fence twice (hurting himself) before going back and laying on the blanket. Wonder looks at the fence, his home is just on the other side. He looks at the blanket. Back at the fence. Back at the blanket. He knows what to do. He puts the blanket on and rams against the fence, slightly slipping in the mud. He rams against it until the wood splinters off. Wonder goes through the opening, the wood rips the blanket. Wonder makes it out, tired, injured, and with a new wool blanket badana around his neck. He can see home; he's limping back, but the rain gets harder and harder.
Denouncement: After walking so long, he realizes he's lost. He doesn't know where to go, it's storming outside and so... so Wonder hides under a nearby car. He's tired and injured and he looks as though he's lost the will to go on. He goes to sleep.
"Wonder! Wonder!" (muffled voice) Wonder slightly opens his eyes. A single tear rolls down. A light flashes on him. We switch to his pov where you see a shining light (flashlight) and a silhouette (angelic, like a savior) "Wonder? Is that you?" Wonder's eyes close.
Ending: Wonder wakes up (clean, scar on his shoulder). He is lying in the arms of his owner. In the room we see crayon-drawn "missing dog" posters. All is well.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
Wonder - He is a small, shaggy, stubborn wiener dog. Caught as a stray, this pup grew a bond with a small child and became best friends. He loves being by his side and will do anything to stay with him.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Owner (Robert "Bobby"): A small boy who grew attached to Wonder. He has a tendency to be lazy, but he's also a very stubborn child. He and his dad placed food outside the house and was able to catch Wonder. But to his father's surprise, he grew attached to Wonder.
Other child (???): "I want it, I'll have it" mentality. Views Wonder more as an item rather than as a living being.
(Inspired by a true story, not based at this point)
